OneIT Update, Questions and Feedback Encouraged

April 13, 2017

Dear ITS Staff,

We wanted to update you on the ongoing work around the OneIT initiative. The Core Implementation Team has been charged with outlining a plan to bring four of the five centralized Information Technology Services (ITS) groups together. Teams from UNK, UNL and UNO, plus the NU ITS Enterprise Systems team— will form into a unified ITS division aligning to the strategic needs of the University of Nebraska and each campus. The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) is currently integrating with Nebraska Medicine and we will work very closely with them on procurement and standardized technologies.

In addition to the Core Implementation Team, Service Teams have been established to provide key input into these initial service areas:

  • Security and Identity Management
  • Infrastructure
  • Client Services
  • Strategic Sourcing
  • Project Management

The Service Teams are being asked to provide detailed recommendations on how these services can be re-envisioned as we unify into one ITS division. Additional services will be included in subsequent phases.

We have also put together communications and human resources teams, led by Andrea Childress from UNK, with membership including ITS staff and University partners to address questions being asked as we work through the OneIT initiative.

In the next couple of weeks, a website and an expanded FAQ will be shared with you based on questions we have heard. We also want to begin two-way dialogue and answer questions you may have on the process, so we’ve established a way to send feedback or questions to the teams. Additionally, there will be listening sessions scheduled at each campus to discuss the OneIT initiative further.

By the middle of May, recommendations will be made from the Core Implementation Team to the Steering Team. The final recommendations will then be shared by Mark Askren with the campus chancellors and President Hank Bounds.

Thank you for everything you do and your continued support as we re-envision IT at the University of Nebraska.

Mark Askren - Vice President for Information Technology, University of Nebraska and Chief Information Officer, UNL

Deb Schroeder - Chief Information Officer, UNK

Bret Blackman - Chief Information Officer, UNO
