A big change is coming to cloud storage at the University of Nebraska. Information Technology Services is beginning the process of moving all data off of Box to Microsoft 365 services.
Besides the benefit of using a storage solution that aligns with Microsoft services already used by the University, Box is dramatically raising its prices and ending its unlimited storage offering. After January 2022, Microsoft’s suite of OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams will be the University’s preferred general-purpose storage and collaboration tool.
ITS will begin reaching out to targeted faculty and departments this summer to begin migrating their data. For everyone else, please follow these guidelines:
-
Don’t start moving now. When the time comes, ITS will provide tools and resources to migrate Box data.
-
Do start cleaning now. Delete unnecessary files and remove yourself from files or folders that you don’t want or need. When you are finished cleaning, remember to empty Box trash.
-
Don’t use other storage platforms. ITS believes Microsoft 365 will provide NU users the best, and most secure, experience.
ITS will continue to provide updates throughout the migration process. Additional information can be found at its.nebrasak.edu/box. If you have any questions, email ITS at support@nebraska.edu.
