October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a collaborative effort between government and industry to ensure every American has the resources they need to stay safe and secure online while increasing the resilience of the nation against cyber threats.
Information Technology Services is hosting a variety of events throughout the month aimed at raising awareness of the importance of cybersecurity.
Cybersecurity Escape Room Challenge! Secure It.
Do like puzzles? Do you like escape rooms? Then get a team of four people together and do the free cybersecurity escape room challenge! Do you have what it takes to escape Rival University’s campus after a stunning Mavs victory? This escape room challenge will teach you a little about Two-Factor, website security and WiFi security while having fun solving puzzles to find the safe way home. Join us for five discussions around Security and Identity. Topics include security policies, email security, Two-Factor Authentication, common security threats, and endpoint security. Special Agent Saad will share the latest cybersecurity threats the FBI has been investigating, followed by a Q&A. Free and open to the public.

CISCO Threat Hunting Workshop
This free event is being offered by CISCO. In this unique lab, attendees will have hands-on interaction with the latest tools to hone their cybersecurity expertise. During the labs, attendees will get to work with an advanced set of automated, integrated cybersecurity technologies they have likely never been exposed to, or at least not on this scale. They will also see popular hacking tools in action and gain experience defending critical data. At the end of this event, the attendees will be familiar with the latest defense techniques and technologies to fight various cyber threats. These labs build upon one another, so the full 4-hour time commitment is necessary. Prior experience working with CISCO devices is helpful, but not necessary. Open to Computer Science or Cybersecurity students or faculty, and ITS staff with advanced technical knowledge. A laptop is required. Register at training.unl.edu.
