Wired network connections are recommended for University of Nebraska students, faculty, and staff when they primarily work from a single location or need consistent high-speed access. An active Campus Identity is required for wired connections.
Don’t know your Campus Identity?
Use your smartphone or another computer with internet access and visit https://trueyou.nebraska.edu to manage your identity.
When you connect a personal desktop or laptop computer by wire (Ethernet) to the network, you will be automatically directed to the NU-Guest Login portal. From there, you can access the Wired Network Configuration Utility. After completing setup, the device will automatically connect to the network until you update or reset your Campus Identity password.
Managed University Computers
University desktops and laptops enrolled in Endpoint Management Services (Active Directory, SCCM, or Jamf Pro) receive the required 802.1x configuration settings that will support wired network authentication. Authentication may occur transparently during login or with a user prompt.
Non-Managed University Computers
Non-Managed desktops and laptops will need to follow the same process as a personal computer. After connecting by wire (ethernet) to the network, you will be automatically directed to the NU-Guest Login portal. From there, you can access the Wired Network Configuration Utility. Alternatively, you can reach out to your local IT support team to discuss other solutions.
Wired IoT devices such as game consoles and printers that have been profiled by ITS will automatically connect to the network without a Campus Identity. Wireless IoT devices will need to connect with the NU-IoT SSID and register in the IoT Registration portal.
If your device cannot connect to the wired network after following these instructions, please contact your campus Help Desk.
