As we shift to a remote environment for learning, teaching and working, it is important to remember that being outside of the university presents unique challenges when it comes to digital safety. Taking a few additional security precautions can help protect your online accounts and the university’s valuable information. Here are some steps you can take to enhance security:

Enroll in Two-Factor Authentication
Protect your online accounts by enrolling in Duo's Two-Factor Authentication. Two-Factor protection is the best way to mitigate attacks on weak or stolen passwords. Enroll in Two-Factor at trueyou.nebraska.edu.

Keep Work Data off your Personal Devices
It is always preferable to conduct University business on NU-owned devices, but we recognize that this approach may not always be possible. If you’re used to saving files directly on your computer at work, but now are having to use a personal device, try not to save files directly on a home computer. Instead, use Box to store your work so you can keep your files secure.

Always Keep Your Device With You
Keep in mind that, if you’re using a shared computer or if others in your home can easily access your work computer, it’s your responsibility to keep data secure. With that in mind, never leave your device or laptop unattended. If you do need to step away from the computer while logged into university systems, lock your computer so no one else can log in. When you return to the computer, you can unlock the computer with your password and continue your work.
Protect Your Systems
This includes activating and/or enabling up-to-date anti-virus software, regularly updating your operating system, patching your home computers and enabling the firewall on your operating system.
